5/13/08:  Correction for Hotel Code
The hotel code listed on the last page of the Kouriere for the Hampton Inn in Gadsden for our District Convention is wrong.  The correct code to get the District Convention rate is AKC and not  KDC.  ( I kinda like the worng one; the correct one makes me think we are American Kennel Club registered.)

5/13/08:  Club Officer Elections Reports are Due
Your club should have elected their officers for 2008-09 by Mid May, and the reports of your new officers are now due.  If your club has not completed their elections, remind your president that Kiwanis by-laws require this be done in late April and early May.

5/13/08:  Kiwanis International Convention is Near
June  25 is only six weeks away, and the Alabama District is less than half way to its goal for the 2008 Kiwanis International Convention in Orlando.  With a candidate for Vice President, we should be almost double our goal.  Don't procrastinate any longer...go to the page in our web site for the International Convention and register now!  Its going to be great fun, and we need your vote for Joel!  Also, if you don't register soon and you are going to be a voting delegate, you will have a lot more hassle getting your credentials if you have to d o it in Orlando!

2/14/2008:  CLE Planned for Every Division
The CLE training program for new club officers (2008-09) got off to an excellent start with 22 officers attending the advanced session at the recent Mid Winter Growth Summit.  This year, Ernest Hulsey, CLE Chairman and Governor Elect, plans to offer CLE in every Division this year rather than in every two Divisions as in the past.  Look for the dates to be announced in the near future and plan for your club’s 2008-09 President and Secretary to attend.

2/14/2008:  Joel Williams to Run for International Vice President
Joel Williams appears to have yielded to an overwhelming expression of support and encouragement for him to run for International Vice President at the 2008 Kiwanis International Convention in Orlando in June.  He fell just a handful of votes shy of being elected in Montreal in 2006, and support for him has grown.  Now we need for every club in the Alabama District to respond in full support of Joel by sending a full delegation of voting delegates (2 per club) to the International convention.  Full information, registration forms and housing forms are posted in this web site.  Kiwanis International needs Joel’s solid leadership, and we need to give him full support to achieve his election.  Do it now.

2/14/2008:  Two Bylaws Amendments to be Considered in August
Meeting at the Mid Winter Growth Summit, the Alabama District Kiwanis Board of Trustees approved two amendments to the District bylaws for consideration at the 2008 District Convention in Gadsden, August 1-3, 2008.  The first is a proposal to re-consider the proposed dues increase presented at the 2007 convention, which failed by 3 votes to achieve the required 2/3 majority.  The District board adopted a deficit budget for the current year, drawing necessary funds from the operating reserve to bring the operation into balance for 2007-08, but must consider serious cut backs in service and staffing if additional income cannot be found.  The second amendment would add a new office in the progression to Governor allowing an incumbent two years preparation time.  The new office, to be titled Secretary-Treasurer, would become the sole candidate for Governor Elect and then Governor.  The present District Secretary-Treasurer would become the Executive Director, and as the paid staff member of the District, would no longer be a voting member of the Board of Trustees.  Each club in good standing in the District is entitled to 3 voting delegates; all current members of the Board of Trustees, past Governors, and past Lieutenant Governors are delegates at large.  Plan to have a full delegation at the District convention to act on these proposals that will define the future of the Alabama District.

2/14/2008:  The Alabama District Will Set Sail in 2009
Looking ahead, there is a lot of excitement and fun in store for delegates to the 2009 District Convention.  We will be on board, literally, and our convention will be at sea.  We will have the event on Board the Carnival Cruise lines for a 4 day cruise!  The dates will be in late July and will include a full day ashore in Cozumel Mexico and two full days at sea.  Kiwanis meetings will be held on those days and kept to a minimum…the focus is on fun and fellowship.  Make this a part of your family planning for next year!

10/23/2007:  On-line Reporting Now Possible
Starting this month, clubs in the Alabama District may file their annual, monthly and election of officers reports on line.  The District has joined nearly all other Districts in the use of the system established by Kiwanis International for this purpose.  Clubs can file their 2006-07 Annual Reports now on this system, and may begin filing their monthly reports for 2007-08 effective November 1st.  To use the program, club secretaries must be registered with Kiwanis International.

To do this, you should go to: www.kiwanisone.org/common/memberregistration.aspx and follow the instructions.  To complete the process, you must have your personal membership id number and your club’s key number.  Once you have done this and have your password, you can access the system.  If you have difficulties completing the procedure, contact kiwanisone@kiwanis.org for assistance.  Note:  to use the monthly report system, you must begin with October, 2007.  If you start later in the year, you will have to go back and enter every report from October, so begin now!
