ROBERT P. CONNELLY
On September 23, 1966, Robert P. Connelly, a member of the Lisle, Illinois Kiwanis Club selling peanuts at a local railroad station rushed to the aid of a young woman with artificial legs who lost her balance and fell onto the tracks, directly in front of an approaching train. Before Connelly could pull the woman from the tracks, the train was upon them and both were lost.
The First Robert P. Connelly Medal for Heroism was awarded posthumously to Robert P. Connelly in 1967 during the 52nd annual Kiwanis International Convention in Houston, TX. Since the inception nearly 500 Medals for Heroism has been awarded. A brochure and nomination form can be requested from the Kiwanis International Foundation office.
